چکیده

In the context of two-dimensional linear elasticity, this paper presents the closed form of the integrals that arise from both the standard (collocation) boundary element method and the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method. Adopting polynomial shape functions of arbitrary degree on straight elements, <nite part of Hadamard, Cauchy principal values and Lebesgue integrals are computed analytically, working in a local coordinate system. For the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method, a study on the singularity of the external integral is conducted and the outer weakly singular integral is analytically performed. Numerical tests are presented as a validation of the obtained results. Copyright ? 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

A fast multipole boundary element method for 2D multi-domain elastostatic problems based on a dual BIE formulation

A new fast multipole formulation for the hypersingular BIE (HBIE) for 2D elasticity is presented in this paper based on a complex-variable representation of the kernels, similar to the formulation developed earlier for the conventional BIE (CBIE). A dual BIE formulation using a linear combination of the developed CBIE and HBIE is applied to analyze multi-domain problems with thin inclusions or ...

Slow convergence of the BEM with constant elements in solving beam bending problems

Constant elements offer many advantages as compared with other higher-order elements in the boundary element method (BEM). With the use of constant elements, integrals in the BEM can be calculated accurately with analytical integrations and no corner problems need to be addressed. These features can make fast solution methods for the BEM (such as the fast multipole, adaptive cross approximation...

Optimization Algorithms for Identi®cation Inverse Problems with the Boundary Element Method

In this paper the most suitable algorithms for unconstrained optimization now available applied to an identi®cation inverse problem in elasticity using the boundary element method (BEM) are compared. Advantage is taken of the analytical derivative of the whole integral equation of the BEM with respect to the variation of the geometry, direct differentiation, which can be used to obtain the grad...

Modeling of interface cracks in ®ber-reinforced composites with the presence of interphases using the boundary element method

An advanced boundary element method (BEM) with thin-body capabilities was developed recently for the study of interphases in ®ber-reinforced composite materials (Y.J. Liu, N. Xu and J.F. Luo, Modeling of interphases in ®berreinforced composites under transverse loading using the boundary element method, ASME J. Appl. Mech. 67 (2000) 41±49). In this BEM approach, the interphases are modeled as t...

Gauss Integration Limits in Nearly Singular Integrals of BEM for Geometrically Linear Elements

The most suitable and widely used numerical integration method for boundary integrals in the BEM method is Gauss-Legendre integration. But, this integration method is not appropriate for singular and nearly singular integrations in BEM. In this study, some criteria are introduced for recognizing nearly singular integrals in the integral form of the Laplace equation. At the rst stage, a criterio...
